Echaskech - Skechbook

Release Date: MAY 21st 2007
Label: Just Music

The sumptuous and organic sound of Echaskech’s unique style of electro/breaks has been born from a spectrum of influences that strangely enough started from classical roots when Dominic Hoare and Andy Gillham first met, playing in the same orchestra during their school days.

The classical realm wasn’t enough for their shared passion for the electro sound that, then, was what they wanted to make... Kraftwerk's ‘Tour de France’ and Street Sounds’ ‘Electro 1-3’ were their poison. It quickly became clear that their violins had no place in this electronic culture and the strings were sidelined in favour of an unhealthy interest in all things electro, B-Boy and, ultimately, a yearning to make that kind of music.

At the same time Acid House hit and by this stage, Dom and Andy were in prime position to experience M25 raves and ended up promoting and DJ'ing at their own parties in a road side cafe just off the London Orbital. This led them to explore other forms of, primarily, dance music - techno in particular being a strong influence which, although a dirty word in many quarters, still influences Echaskech today in its modern form.

Following this Dom and Andy went their separate ways in terms of music production yet continued to DJ and promote around London holding 'Information' parties at Rhythm Factory, Electrowerkz, Scar, Cafe 1001, on boats and in the odd disused office....

Late 2004 and they plugged their machines together, jammed those tracks together to produce a new ‘’live’’ sound that has totally changed their approach to writing and producing and has made the sound that is Echaskech.

At this point they decided to take their new live approach and play a long string of performances on stage throughout 2005 but with the addition of one last live element; video. Enter Mach V. Mach V (AKA Mark van der Vord), regular supplier of visuals for the likes of The Big Chill and SoxaN, provides a unique visual element to each Echaskech track from a variety of visual sources. As this collaboration has developed over a rigorous live schedule, so has the technical integration between Andy, Dom and Mark’s computer set up, resulting in a fully coordinated audio visual experience that you can both chill out and dance to.
