Plan B - No Good - Sick 2 Def - 679 Recordings

So, this single comes from Plan B or Ben from East London (surname undisclosed), 21 years old. For those of you not in the know - Plan B is an artist who is championing a new genre, Acoustic Rap - it's a phrase I have coined but I reckon it fits…

SICK 2 DEF is exactly that - a solo acoustic guitar track with some lyrics over the top, and what lyrics they are... Believe me when I say No punches are pulled. The subject matter is not for those who are easily shocked - but they are not simply there for shock value!!! YES - they are coarse - full of expletives, but it isn’t gratuitous. He is an angry young man, and it would seem he wants us to know this!!! Or if not angry he is definitely sick 2 def about something... All I will say further is that it is a very interesting question - How much are the younger generation affected by what they see, play and listen to... We all have our own idea about that one...

NO GOOD on the other hand has something a little more to offer... This track has got drums in it, which immediately gives us something to nod our heads to (or jump up and down to) and on top of that is a sung chorus with some more singing in the outro... It wouldn't have been right if this single hadn’t shown the other side of Plan B's talent - as the man says - 'I rap and I sing, sing, sing' - and after having the pleasure of seeing him live on 2 occasions I would say that he does both rather well! The phrase 'one man army' has been used before but in this case it really does seem applicable... If all this weren’t enough there is the rather remarkable video too... I hope this very talented artist gets the success he deserves...

Plan B bio

Twenty-one years-old, East Londoner Ben aka Plan B is one of those rare musical talents that defy categorisation. His largely self produced tracks juxtapose silky smooth RnB vocals with a Rap/Spoken word hybrid, cinematic b-lines and no-frills narrative of 21st Century life in British cities.

Despite being new to the music game Plan B has already been at the centre of controversy. The debut airing of his Kids and Dead and Buried single on BBC 1Xtra TX Unlimited News show sparked a headed debate, listeners questioning the merits of his bleak, metropolis fables.

When people hear Kids on radio everything they’re scared of about the city is in their face and they can’t handle it. One caller asked me ‘Do you really think you can change things?’ Im just trying to educate youths differently, hold up a mirror to them
